The method of succinic acid derived from malonate esters
If you want to obtain succinic acid, you can find it by the method of malonate esters.
Malonate esters are active and can lead to reactions. First, make the malonate ester nucleophilic substitution with suitable reagents. If you encounter halogenated hydrocarbons, in an alkaline environment, the methylene hydrogen of the malonate ester is replaced by a hydrocarbon group to form a hydrocarbon-substituted malonate ester. In combination with this product, when you encounter halogenated hydrocarbons again, you can form a dihydrocarbon-substituted malonate ester according to the previous method.
Next, the malonate ester substituted by the alkali solution is hydrolyzed to form the corresponding carboxylic acid. After the acid is used, the dicarboxylic acid is obtained.
Finally, the dicarboxylic acid undergoes a decarboxylation reaction. When heated, the carboxylic group decarboxylates and escapes, resulting in succinic acid.
Although this method is complicated, it can follow the rules to produce succinic acid, which is one of the ways to obtain succinic acid in organic synthesis.
